Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher opines that Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona is similar to that of Luis Suarez when he wanted to leave years back.

The Uruguayan left the club in 2014 even though he hoped to exit a year earlier. Arsenal met his release clause of £40 million and added just one £1 then but the bid was laughed off at Anfield. Suarez asked for a transfer as he had grown frustrated at the club but the move did not happen.

Coutinho also wants to move to Barcelona even though there is no release clause saga but Liverpool want to retain him to remain competitive this season. Losing the player this late and not getting a suitable replacement on time would derail the dreams of the club this term and Coach Jurgen Klopp is desperate to avoid it. (more…)

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has spoken glowingly of his former club Liverpool.

The Uruguayan left Anfield amid controversy in a big money move to the Nou Camp in 2015. The former Ajax striker says he never imagined that he would play for the Reds, adding that it was a dream come true and a stepping stone to great things in his career.

Suarez was a real sensation in the Netherlands so Liverpool brought him to England. His 31 goals in 2014 almost gave Liverpool a Premier League title until a small slip gifted another team the title. In his three and a half year with Liverpool, Suarez netted 82 times in 133 games.

“When I was little, Liverpool was one of the biggest clubs in Europe and was renowned throughout the world. So when I found out about the club’s interest in me I was never in doubt because it’s the dream for any player; I never imagined that I would get the chance to play there,” Suarez said. (more…)

In terms of scoring goals and providing assists to his teammates, Luis Suarez has had yet another impressive season as a player of Barcelona as the Uruguayan attacker scored 29 goals and made 13 assists which is not as high as his previous season of 2015-16 where he scored 40 goals and created 16 goal-scoring chances to his partners but it´s still a remarkable season as far as contributions goes for Luis Suarez.

However, despite everything that Luis Suarez did in this season to help Barcelona win major pieces of silverware it just wasn’t enough as the Spanish club was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals after losing to Juventus.

To make matters even worse, Real Madrid are in the finals of the UEFA Champions League and have a realistic chance of emerging as victorious as well as also already having lifted the La Liga title and being crowned as the latest champions of Spain. (more…)

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has branded Luis Suarez as the best No 9 in the world.

The forward has been in excellent scoring form. He has been able to tide over the absence of Lionel Messi in some key matches. Suarez finished last season as top scorer in the Spanish La Liga. He scored an astonishing 40 goals last season and finished five ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the goals tally. This time around, there has been no reduction in his form, as he has 24 league goals. Suarez is only behind his Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi, who has 27 league goals.

After having cost the club an incredible £ 72 million when he made the switch from Liverpool in the summer of 2014, the striker is feeling a lot of pressure in order to deliver goals on a regular basis. Many will feel that he has been a better purchase for the club than Neymar, who has managed only nine league goals this season. (more…)

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes that his club has the resources to go all the way and win the title.

He believes that they have the necessary quality as well as the strength in depth to challenge the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal for the title.

Simon Mignolet said that Liverpool is a much better side than the one in 2013-2014 where Manchester City beat them in the race to the title. He stated that at this point they were reliant on Luis Suarez and that the current team has a current philosophy.

He said that Luis Suarez was the main reason why they were able to compete back then as he was at the top of his game. The Uruguay international was not only scoring many goals, but he was also creating them for the likes of Sturridge as well as Sterling. (more…)

Liverpool’s contract with players have been making headlines all over the world due to the clauses that Anfield agree to or put in deals.

The Reds’ deal with Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino is the latest to be revealed by Football Leaks and Belgian news outlet, Le Soir.

The release clause for the player is reportedly £82 million but the Merseyside ensured that Premier League rivals Arsenal would not be able to activate it. The 25-year old forward joined Liverpool in 2015 for £29 million but his impressive contributions to the current squad under Coach Jurgen Klopp ensured the club took steps to tie him down.
Firmino has netted 17 times and has provided 17 assists to teammates after 64 games for Liverpool. The current clause of the player would surely keep interested parties at bay with the high figure attached.

The clause added to bar Arsenal is a cheeky response to the Gunners attempt at luring former striker Luis Suarez in 2013. Whilst the release clause was £40 million for the Uruguay international, manager Arsene Wenger sanctioned a bid of £40m + £1 for the player, believing they triggered the clause which ever way. That allowed them to enter talks with the then troubled but still very talented player, angering Liverpool.

Liverpool chair John W Henry tweeted a famed response on the subject: “What do you think they are smoking over at the Emirates?” The Reds ignored the offer and the player eventually left the set-up as he joined Barcelona where he has been exceptional ever since.

Football Leaks leaked series of clients’ deals of Jorges Mendes’ agency Gestifute – a firm that handles some of the biggest deals in football like Red Devils coach Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. Both persons are reportedly enmeshed in tax evasion which they have denied.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has expressed his disappointment at the loss when they played Manchester City in one of the UEFA Champions League group games on Tuesday in England.

The Uruguay international was not happy with Barca’s second half performance and asked that he and his teammates “must be critical of ourselves.”

The former Ajax and Liverpool star could not help Barcelona as they crashed to a 3-1 loss to Barcelona’s former coach, Pep Guardiola. The Catalan giants were decent in the first half but their second half performance ensured they lost the game.

“In the first half, we could’ve scored more goals, but we’re aware that opponents also played [football]. Nonetheless, I believe we must be critical of ourselves for how we played in the second half. In the second half, they changed their pattern of play a bit and the manner in which they pressed us.

“We must draw conclusions from the good and bad things. After they went 2-1 up, we had a very good chance to make it 2-2, but 3-1 made things very difficult for us. They had to play for their fans and needed the win, but that was from the first minute and we started the game very well,” Suarez said.

Luis Suarez is of the opinion that the return of Lionel Messi back to international football is a good result for everyone concerned with the game.

Messi had announced his retirement from international football after losing a third consecutive final with the national team. He had previously suffered disappointments at the 2015 Copa America and 2014 World Cup. As a result, there was a lot of expectations riding on the shoulders of the 29-year-old going into the 2016 Copa America final. Yet again, Argentina lost to Chile in this tournament and Messi picked up another runners up medal.

After having been so used to winning major honours throughout his career, Messi has not been able to accept that he has finished as runners-up in three consecutive finals. Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza was able to convince Messi to return to the national team, as a player of his ability would be a catastrophic loss especially at the age of 29. Messi has been part of the World Cup 2018 qualifiers for the South American continent. Incidentally, the opening qualification game for Argentina was against Uruguay and it is meant that Messi and Suarez – who are teammates at club level – ended up being on the opposite sides.
