Atletico Madrid star Luis Suarez is a major player in the Pichichi race in the Spanish La Liga this season on the back of his transfer to the capital earlier this year. The Pichichi is given to the player with the most goals at the end of the Spanish La Ligaseason and Luis Suarez could win it for only the second time in his career in the current campaign. Luis Suarez has been a consistent goalscorer for Atletico Madrid since joining the club from Barcelona and his goals have propelled his team to the top of the table.


Luis Suarez was at Barcelona for six years and didn’t want to leave the club this summer. He was pushed out of the Catalan club by new manager Ronald Koeman despite having one year left on his contract. Atletico Madrid paid €6m for his transfer and he has scored seven goals in the league this season. Luis Suarez is in the thick of things as far as the La LigaPichichi trophy race is concerned. He won the Pichichi at the end of the 2015/16 season after scoring 40 goals in the league to finish ahead of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. His performance that season earned him fourth position on the Ballon d’Or Award rankings for 2016.

Luis Suarez has seven goals and one assist in ten league games and a total of seven goals plus one assist in 14 Atletico Madrid games. He is joint fourth in the race for the Pichichi at the moment behind the trio of Gerard Moreno, Karim Benzema and Iago Aspas. Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno and his Celta Vigo counterpart are on eight goals in the league season. Real Madrid star Karim Benzema is also on eight goals. Apart from Luis Suarez, Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi and Real Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal are on seven league goals.
